Podcast 90 – Ignoble

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Dragon’s Demize. For our first official review of 2018, we’re tackling Ignoble, a trick-taking card game where each card has unique abilities! Ignoble isn’t officially out yet, and we were honored to receive one of only 50 printed copies from the folks at DotStarMoney. Easy to learn but difficult to master, Ignoble has an amazing depth of strategy. Earning victory requires both insight and precision. We look forward to bringing you more updates once the game is officially released. In the meantime, check out our review for more in-depth analysis!

As usual, we also talk about what we’ve been playing lately. This week on the list: Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate, Spirit Island, and Pick Your Poison.

Podcast 88 – Games with few components

Merry Christmas listeners! We hope you’re having a joyous holiday season. Many of you are probably with friends and/or family now, which is the perfect chance to play some games. But what if you don’t have any games? Fear not! We here at Dragon’s Demize have come up with a list of fantastic games that you can play with little more than pen and paper. While some of the games require a six-sided die or a deck of cards, digital versions will work just as well. We hope you enjoy this list, and that you have a wonderful New Year.

As an additional note, Greg and Jakub would like to extend a huge thank you to all of you who have joined us this year on Dragon’s Demize. Whether you listened to the podcast, visited our Facebook page, watched our streams, or just supported us behind the scenes, we want you all to know that you are the reason we do what we do. Thank you so so much, and we look forward to bringing you more content in 2018.

Since the pool is a bit smaller for thee, we also take the opportunity to expand our lists of expansions. All of the other rules still apply. Just like last time, let us know on Facebook if there were any games you thought should have been on our list, or if you disagree with out picks.

Podcast 85 – Big Box Gift Guide

Season’s greetings listeners! It’s holiday season again, and of course that means that many of us our buying gifts for our loved ones (or ourselves). Just like last year, Dragon’s Demize has created a list of games from 2017 that we recommend. We did follow some fairly specific rules this year:

  1. The game had to have been published (or become widely available for purchase) in 2017
  2. It has to be available for purchase right now
  3. The game must be a “big box” game (specifically, too large to fit into a stocking)
  4. We must have played it ourselves

Following those rules, we came up with five games each and we present them to you here! We hope you enjoy the list. Please let us know on Facebook if there were any games you thought should have been on our list, or if you disagree with out picks.

Special thank you to Agata Poniatowski for the Artwork and Strangelette for the music.  If you enjoyed the podcast, be sure to check us out on FacebookDiscord, and Google+. Our weekly streams and new vlogs are also available on our Youtube channel.

Hey everyone! We’re back with another episode of Dragon’s Demize. This time, we talk to our friend Pedro about his time at the PAX Unplugged board game convention. Three days jam-packed with board games and RPGS sounds like our kind of weekend. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to make it ourselves, but we can live vicariously through him. Hopefully you can too!

Podcast 83 – Between Two Cities

Today on Dragon’s Demize, we talk about a game long overdue for a review: Between Two Cities! Between Two Cities puts players in the role of civic engineers and asks them to design the best cities possible. Careful tile selection and placement are key to maximizing points. But be careful about spending too much effort on one city: your final score is the lower of your two cities. We also review the Capitals expansion, which adds a host of new features.

Alien Artifacts pits 2-5 players against one another as they attempt to maximize the value of galactic resources and build the strongest civilizations. It’s a surprisingly quick game packed with strategic choices. We also discuss the games we’ve been playing including Between Two Cities and Mystic Vale. Also we apologize for the poor audio quality during the first half of the podcast, skip to 13:46 if you’d like to get to the good stuff.

Welcome back to Dragon’s Demize, dear listeners! On today’s episode, Greg and Jakub talk about some of their favorite game designers. Specifically, we discuss how some designers have signature mechanics that they return to again and again, and what implications that has for game design. It’s a fun, free-form discussion, and we hope you enjoy it! We also encourage feedback, if you think of a designer we missed or any other comments.
