Podcast 59 – Mars Needs Mechanics

Welcome back to another exciting installment of Dragon’s Demize. This week, we review Mars Needs Mechanics, a commodity trading game with steampunk flair! In, Mars Needs Mechanics players trade Components for Cogs and vice versa in order to gain the biggest stack of Cogs. Prices fluctuate according to demand, so buying low and selling high is the name of the game. In addition, Components can be used to craft Mechanisms, which give powerful bonuses. It’s a careful balancing act wrapped up in a fun theme.

As always, we also talk about what we’ve been playing. This week, we’re back with more Time Stories (stories) and Santorini.

Podcast 58 – Sherwood’s Legacy

Hello listeners! Dragon’s Demize is back with another review: Sherwood’s Legacy. Sherwood’s Legacy is a tactical combat game similar to the popular tower defense genre of video game. Players take on the role of heroes from Robin Hood mythology and defend the village against the invading forces. The game also features resource management and an optional scaling difficulty system. Check out the review for our complete thoughts!

Podcast 57 – Castles of Mad King Ludwig

Hello and welcome back to Dragon’s Demize! Today, we’ll be reviewing The Castles of Mad King Ludwig. In Castles (as I’ll be referring to it for the rest of this post, because damn), players take on the role of architects, designing castles for King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Each round, players purchase rooms from the supply and add them to their castles. Each room has a variety of characteristics and bonuses which synergize with other types of rooms to score points. Points are also scored for earning “King’s Favors,” randomly selected bonuses that correspond to different castle features.

As always, there’s also plenty of fun talk about what we’ve been playing lately. Highlights include Five Tribes and Sherwood’s Legacy, a new game that describes itself as a tower defense board game!
